Purpose. To create the concept of a model of analytical and mathematical representation of structural elements in the space of quality indicators of steel grades. Design / Method / Approach. A theoreticalanalytical approach is applied to the creation of a concept for solving the problem of forming a mathematical model of the data structure. Findings. Definitions of training sampling in non-traditional classification of structural elements and class of steels in the space of mechanical properties are formulated. The use of the formulated definitions has proved that the task of structuring data to structural elements can be reduced to the search in the derived array of quality indicators, training samples, around which rational mechanical properties can be formed. Theoretical Implications. The concept of analytical-theoretical representation of structural elements is a system of views on the creation of a mathematical description in a multidimensional space, in which the coordinate axes correspond to different types of mechanical properties. This allows us to proceed to the development of a mathematical apparatus designed to create a data structure. Practical Implications. The presentation of the steel grade assortment in the multidimensional space of service characteristics of structural elements is illustrative. With its help, it is possible to study the relationship and relationship between steel grades and structural elements, as information objects built on sets of quality indicators. Originality / Value. The concept proposes an original systematization of the derived information, taking into account the probability of statistical blurring of parameters, which increases the reliability of the comparative analysis of the characteristics of the structural element and the quality indicators of steels. Research Limitations / Future Research. The prospect of creating a mathematical apparatus for the quantitative analysis of various grades of steel by all possible characteristics, which can be proposed for the creation of new structural elements, opens up. This will make it possible to create an analytical system of non-traditional ranking and ordering of steel brands, on the basis of which it is possible to choose substitutes for expensive complex-alloyed steels and alloys. Paper Type. Conceptual Paper.
