Waste Recycling: Key Benefits and Challenges
Abstract
The issues of waste management in Ukraine have been accumulating for many years. As far back as 1998, the law "On Waste" was adopted, which defined the basic conditions, requirements, and rules for environmentally safe waste management, their minimization, and the promotion of resource conservation. The law envisaged the expansion of waste use in economic activities, prevention of their harmful impact on the natural environment and human health. However, the ideas laid down in this law were not properly implemented in everyday practice, particularly concerning the creation of conditions that would encourage waste generators to separate collection, as well as the organization of control over the places of their disposal.
25 years have passed since the proclamation of these necessary principles for our country, but little has changed in practice. Waste continues to accumulate, and there is no control over their storage. There is also no point in expecting separate collection of solid household waste.
