About Research Commons
Eytan Goldfinger, Director, Product Management at Clarivate, announced the launch of the Research Commons collection on the Web of Science platform on September 4, 2025. This project unlocks new possibilities for accessing and increasing the global visibility of scholarly research, demonstrating Clarivate's commitment to a broader representation of global science.
Research Commons aggregates more than 32 million metadata records from open sources such as Crossref and OpenAlex, which expands the volume of journal content on the platform by 21%. Particular attention has been paid to previously underrepresented regions and disciplines: 53% of the material originates from countries in the Global South, and 43% comes from the social sciences, arts, and humanities. Over 39% of the content is Open Access, which supports the more effective dissemination of knowledge and aligns with contemporary open science principles.
The collection is integrated with the Web of Science citation network, allowing researchers to discover new connections between publications, analyze trends, and expand collaboration opportunities. For universities and libraries, this serves as an additional analytical tool for strategic planning, and for authors, it is a way to make their work more visible in the global research ecosystem.
It is important to note that Research Commons is not part of the Web of Science Core Collection and does not grant journals an official indexation status. However, the presence of metadata in Research Commons is an important step towards a more balanced reflection of scholarly work from diverse regions and disciplines, and it creates additional channels for increasing citations.
The journal Challenges and Issues of Modern Science is represented in Research Commons, which ensures a wider audience for its publications and provides additional opportunities for scholarly recognition and integration into the global research environment.
