Development of a scheme for the extraction and utilization of blast furnace gas for electricity generation

Abstract

In modern energy realities of the world and Ukraine, one of the development vectors is the efficient use of available energy resources. One of the methods of efficient resource utilization is the use of so-called RES - secondary energy resources. These are by-products from main production that can be used in energy production, such as heat from machine and equipment cooling systems, or as in the case discussed in this work, Blast Furnace Gas (BFG).

Blast Furnace Gas is a by-product of metallurgical production, formed during the smelting of iron in blast furnaces. Its output and chemical composition depend on the properties of the charge and fuel, furnace operation mode, process intensification methods, and other factors.

In addition to energy concerns, the proper utilization of blast furnace gas is urgent in terms of ecology. Blast Furnace Gas is an environmentally hazardous by-product of metallurgy and cannot be simply released into the atmosphere.

Due to the combination of the necessity for utilization and the available energy potential, the development of schemes for efficient blast furnace gas extraction is not only an urgent issue for energy but also for metallurgy and ecology.
